Known Uses of Oregano Oil

Oregano oil has been used by the ancient Greeks for various purposes. Nowadays, people use it to fight against infections, inflammation and pain because of its antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral and antiparasitic properties. To summarize, oregano oil can be used for;

  • Treating foot and nail fungus
  • Treating wounds
  • Alleviating colds and sinus infections
  • Killing parasites
  • Protecting the skin from insect bites
  • Treating psoriasis
  • Alleviating dandruff, cold sores and other skin disorders
  • Relieving muscle pain, joint pain, sprains, cramps and rheumatoid arthritis
  • Brush teeth

However, oregano oil is not for everyone. If taken in high dosages or concentrations, it can cause skin and mucus membrane irritation which can go worse if left untreated. People who are also allergic to lavender, sage, mint and marjoram may be allergic to oregano oil as well. Thus, this should be taken into consideration in order to avoid the adverse effects. Nonetheless, it is not a good idea to use oregano oil to pregnant women because it can stimulate hormones and potentially cause a miscarriage. Nursing women, infants and individuals who have a high blood pressure should also avoid this. As much as possible, seek medical help when infections and other illnesses are experienced.

Health Benefits of Oregano Oil

Oregano oil provides several health benefits. Depending on your illness, you can use the oil by applying it to the affected area or you can add a few drops of it to a glass of water. A pure oregano concentrate can help you with the following;

  • Protection against viral, bacterial and fungal infections.
  • Protection against macular degeneration and cancer
  • Provides relief on allergies
  • Provides a soothing effect on different types of inflammation
  • Reduces symptoms in menopause
  • Treats respiratory ailments
  • Removes intestinal worms
  • Serves as a powerful painkiller
  • Promotes proper digestion

Oregano has several species but if you are looking for the most therapeutically beneficial, the Origanum vulgare or the Thymus capitatus varieties are recommended. The oil obtained from these oregano species will help you experience its positive effects at a short period of time. Moreover, if you are a little concerned as to where to find an oregano oil, do not worry because there are several nutrition stores and online retailers that are selling this kind of product. You just have to choose the best manufacturer and make sure to read the label before trying to buy an oregano oil. Having an oregano oil at hand is definitely worthwhile, especially that it gives a lot of health benefits.

Obtaining High Quality Oregano Oil

There are different grades of oregano oil, depending on the production method, the origin and the species of Origanum. For optimal health benefits, a quality product is needed. The best oil I have found and use my self is a Greek producer of Wild Medittarean Oregano Oil on eBay that sells an exceptionally safe and high quality, pharmaceutical grade product.

The oregano used is organic, and wild picked in Greece. Possible to purchase both in it’s pure form which needs to be diluted, or a ready-for-use, pre-diluted oil mixed with cold pressed organic extra virgin olive oil from Greece.

The active ingredients are carvacrol, which is 86% at a minimum, a very high percentage compared to other oregano oil products, that only the Origanum Vulgare species can produce. The other active ingredient Thymol, is a very low quantity at less than 2% because of it’s toxicity in large quantities.

If you can share your experience with oregano oil.
